We all like to
brag a little about our fitness accomplishments – but your Facebook
friends may be sick of hearing about the long run that you crushed again
this weekend!
In fact, according to a new survey conducted by Sweatband.com, a U.K. based e-commerce site, “more than half of social network users think fitness- and diet related posts are the most annoying updates.” Luckily, there is a new way to share your new workout records without telling all 500 of your Facebook friends.
So for those of you who still want to share your accomplishments without fear of getting defriended; there is a new wave of social networking sites specific for workout fiends. Check out Women's Health Online Editor Elizabeth Narins’ top 3 favorite fitness social networking sites:
Fitocracy
This unusual social networking site rewards you with points for being active, if you earn enough points you get bragging rights through special “profile badges,” and advance to the next level. Fitocracy is a game-like network in which you can log and save workouts, monitor your progress, and connect with your most fitness fanatic Facebook friends. You can also broadcast accomplishments, complete with before and after pictures, as well as see your friends’ updates.
FREE, or $4.99/month to compete in fitness challenges and save more than eight fitness routine.
Daily Mile
If you like logging every workout, tracking your mileage, and posting motivational updates, then Daily Mile is the site for you. You can connect with fit friends on the site, search and map your own routes, and log swims, bike rides, and other fitness routines. You can even challenge your Daily Mile friends to try your workouts.
FREE, or $49.95/year for extra features like bulked up analytics, a calendar to plan workouts, and a prettier interface.
Map my Fitness
Some say this is the largest online community of fitness fanatics, including its’ smaller family of sites: MapMyHike, MapMyRide, MapMyWalk, and MapMyRun. The site lets you log in with your Facebook information and uses Google Maps to automatically record your mileage and outdoor workouts. MapMyFitness also allows you to connect with your friends from other social media sites and access their workouts too. Narins reports the coolest part, “You can even input your workout stats from the tracking device you already use, like Nike+ or Fitbit, and selectively email fitness feats to people outside the network.”
