Death
is the harsh reality of life. There are many causes of death. Old
age, road accidents, fatal infections, hereditary inherited
tendencies, suicides, flu, pneumonia, etc., are many such factors
that instigate the loss of life. Some of the most treacherous
ailments that lead to deaths in North America are as follows:
1.Heart Disease: This feared disease has been known to affect a number of people in the United States and they includeAfrican Americans, Hispanics, and Caucasian people. Cancer is the most dreaded disease in American Indians or Alaska Natives and Asians or Pacific Islanders, followed by diseases of theheart. In 2008, more than 616,000 people succumbed to heart disease. (Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
2.Cancer: The American Cancer Society submitted a report related to cancer and statistics on the diagnosis and deaths from 2004 to 2008. It is a cause for worry that in 2012, approximately 1.6 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed and 577,000 Americans will eventually fall prey to some form of cancer (Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Program of Cancer Registries).
3.Stroke: Once the stroke strikes someone and the patient has survived it, he is in danger of having another stroke. The National Stroke Association has expressed fear that Americans stand a risk of recurrence of about 185,000 cases that are experienced annually. These include 24% women and 42% men and the mortality rate will keep on increasing.
4.Respiratory Diseases: The most concerning reason of death due to respiratory diseases is attributed to lung cancer and hence this increases the cause of death due to cancer as well. Remaining physically inactive too comes under this group and it has been found that this is the world’s fourth principal risk factor mortality.Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most common lung diseases and a maximum number of patients in this category are assailed due to high consumption of tobacco and diseases caused due to the same. Almost 50% of patients in varying stages of the COPD are undiagnosed and they go untreated, which is indeed a very sad story.
5.Diabetes: Last year, almost 25.8 million children and adults in the United States had diabetes and many cases were undiagnosed. (Source: The American Diabetes Association). The 2011 data recorded that the year 2007 saw death due to diabetes in more than 71,000 cases and as a contributing factor in an additional 160,000 cases, amounting to a total of 230,000 deaths due to and/or contributed by diabetes.
The above information sends a glaring message to all: Death is knocking at many a door! It would help if you could list your personal and family illnesses and compare the same with the above statistics. It would help if you could implement anticipatory precautions at the earliest by observing possible signs and indicators and keep constant consultation sessions with your doctor. It would help if you and your family members sincerely do routine tests and not procrastinate on this very crucial matter.
All this would certainly help if many families took this issue seriously. It would be a few steps forward in at least a slight reduction of figures in the above statistics towards a slightly healthier world.
